About Phil
Phil spent 20 years in hospitality leadership at four- and five-star hotels, working in sales, marketing, convention services and catering.
A Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and Learning Environment Specialist (LES), he has planned and managed thousands of events—from high-end weddings to Fortune 100 retreats and national conventions, including visits from three U.S. Presidents.
For the past two decades, Phil has poured that same skill and care into the nonprofit world. He was a founding board member and long-time Executive Director of Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, and has served in leadership roles with groups like the Idaho Trails Association, Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society, and several regional forest and conservation collaboratives.
He’s known for bringing people together across differences to solve complex community and environmental challenges. Phil is also an avid long-distance hiker and paddler. He has completed the “Triple Crown” of long trails and paddled the length of the Yukon River.
He helped found the American Long-Distance Hikers Association – West and has been active in local and regional conservation efforts, from aquatic invasive species to national scenic trail planning.
Closer to home, Phil serves on Innovia Foundation’s Leadership Council for Region 10 and cohosts a weekly radio show on conservation and outdoor recreation on Sandpoint’s community station, KRFY 88.5 FM.
